The party was yesterday, and it was great! Not as many people came that we planned on, but now we have a ton of leftover food, so that's good. My niece dressed up as Dora and gave out little prizes while my other niece painted the kids faces. It was definitely a kiddie crowd pleaser! Although, perhaps it was a bit traumatizing for the children since a strong wind blew and Dora's head flew off! She quickly grabbed it and put it back on, though! ha! A few people noticed most of the little *extras* that I put around the house....like the banner she colored in herself, the flowers that matched the color scheme, or the candles in my dining that I wrapped with ribbon to match the color scheme.
Most importantly, however, Bobo (this is what we call her...) had a wonderful time and had a whole day full of playmates. She opened most of her presents and was allowed to eat cake throughout a large chunk of the day. It was like the day of her dreams!
There's a pretty funny/ironic pinata story. We had two Dora pinatas for the kids. One was filled with candy for the older kids. The other was filled with organic crackers and cookies (Annies Cheddar Bunnies, Chocolate Bunnies, etc...) and little toys. For those of you who don't know...I used to REALLY limit what Bobo put in her mouth. She didn't have sugar until her 1st Birthday. I'm much more flexible now, but I couldn't imagine filling something with typical "pinata" candy for my 2 yr old daughter and her little friends....hence the two different pinatas. Well, at pinata time, I made it extremely clear that there were two different ones, and gave it to my husband. I made all the big kids stand back to let the little ones go first. I explained how the big kids would not like what was in this pinata...yadda yadda.... so, the string-pulling began. (Did you know they sell pinatas with pull strings..no more smashing! How safe and wonderful..I LOVE it!) So the little guys are pulling away having a great time while the big kids are anxiously waiting for their turn. Alas, the magical string was pulled, and out came the pinata prizes...FOR THE BIG KIDS...CANDY EVERYWHERE!!!! AHHHHHH!!! What a nightmare (to me at least...everyone else thought it was hysterical!) :-( oh well. At least I tried!
I don't have many, but here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.....
Cupcakes.....Dora and Boots are fondant...
"Backpack" is a giant rice krispie treat covered with fondant....

My Mom made this. Confetti cake in the Dora cake pan...

Yay! Happy Birthday, Addison! :) The food looks amaaazing! I bet the little kids were thrilled with the pinatas! ;) That is hilarious!
